Say a few words about yourself
I have taught French language / French and Francophone literature and cultures, since 1986, first at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Oxford University, then at Andover (Phillips Academy), then as a doctoral fellow at Columbia University, and since 2001, as Head of World Languages and Cultures at Friends Academy (a Quaker school on Long Island, NY). I have created exchange and travel programs for high school students in Martinique, Quebec, and France. I have served on the board of the AATF New York-Metropolitan Chapter since 2004, and as its President since 2016. I have published articles and book chapters on teaching as well as on global citizenship, travel programs, race and ethnicity, Balzac, Segalen, Césaire, Diderot, and Claudel. I present annually (either virtually or in person) at local and national conferences. And I have received numerous awards, including Columbia University’s Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching, Friends Academy’s Master Teacher Award, AATF’s Evelyn Popper Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the AATF Outstanding Chapter Officer Award. In 2018, I was awarded Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques. I am a practicing Quaker and serve as Clerk of the Westbury Monthly Meeting where I lead discussions on peace and social justice. Married since 1987 to Ben Duke, I have two children: William, 26, and Peter, 22.

See you soon !
