In Nick van Woert: Terra Amata, an exhibition of new works, Brooklyn-based sculptor Nick van Woert borrows icons from the past, referencing the ideals of former generations, and overlaps them with more familiar contemporary materials.
The work illustrates a chronology of forms and ideas encompassing everything from classical sculpture, the Donner Party, and Henry David Thoreau, to Ted Kaczynski, Pruitt-Igoe, and 6221 Osage Avenue. The exhibition's title refers to an archaeological site in the South of France where it is believed fire was first used domestically.
This event is part of Fiction & Non-Fiction, one of Crossing the Line 2011's three curatorial program perspectives.

NEW YORK, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - On Friday October 14, THE FRENCH DJs welcome you to the Empire Room from 10pm to 4am to celebrate Electronic music, starring DJ FunkyT a.k.a. DJ of the week according to famous website fromDJs4Djs.com.
During these elegant events, French DJs in residency and guest electro performers from around the world mix culture and sounds for a unique musical experience.
French DJ FunkyT first made a name for himself in Madrid where he was a resident at PACHA and Kapital. Over the years he travelled extensively and played in major clubs such as Les Planches (Paris) and Sikim (Spain).
The Event will also feature two members of the Astoria DJ Group.
- DJ Tropic: A graduate of Scratch Academy Miami with a strong sense of song selection this DJ is capable of spinning almost any genre with ease.
- DJ Mak-Len: From Paris, FRANCE where he worked with Hip Hop and R’n’B artists and produced their albums. He often describes himself as a versatile DJ that can rock any party.
On 16 Octobwr, join us on East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue for tours of La MaMa’s Archive and theatres, as well as family-friendly performances by Blue Man Group, The Silver Cloud Native American Drummers and Singers, Pua Ali’I ‘Ililma o Nuioka Hula Dancers, and the Balkan gypsy punk rock band, Bad Buka. At its conclusion, city officials will co-name the block “Ellen Stewart Way.”
Celebration continues October 17, 6 – 10 p.m. with the La MaMa 50 Gala
Featuring dinner, dancing, and performances from distinguished alumni artists including PATTI SMITH, BiLL IRWIN, and HARVEY FIERSTEIN, who will write a special playlet for the occasion performed by some of New York city’s greatest actors.
Citifari landmark tour includes the New Yorker Hotel, the Empire State building, Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler building.

- bring your best camera, a couple of lenses if you have (a standard zoom should be enough but you might want to be able to play a bit),
- remember to charge your battery and have a memory card that will allow for some 100 shots (~ 10 shots per spot),
- wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes according to the weather,
- most of the tour occurs outside, wear a hat and sunscreen during sunny days,
- bring some refreshments / snacks
The tour should last between 2-1/2 hour and 3 hours and will end close to the Chrysler building.
