    Michel Wieviorka will present the main ideas in his new book, Pour la prochaine gauche (Robert Laffont,February 2011). His talk will focus on how the French Left can and should drawon the social sciences to articulate a new kind of leftist politics that speaksto the social realities and expectations in today’s France. Multiculturalism,affirmative action, national identity, ethnic statistics, immigrantpopulations: how can these pressing social issues be incorporated through aninformed use of sociological, political and historical analysis into a coherentpolitical project that reaffirms leftist values? 

     

    Michel Wieviorka is a sociologist, professor at the École des HautesEtudes en Sciences Sociales, director of the Fondation Maison des Sciences del’Homme, former president of the International Sociological Association and compagnon de route of the French Socialist Party.

    Don't let the cold keep you home! The French Culture Nights takes you out to the Empire Room, the beautiful and elegant 3,500 square feet cocktail lounge, located on the ground floor of the Empire State Building, with Artist painter Fabienne Cuter, DJ Vinny King, and drummer Manu Leger.

    The talented painter Fabienne Cuter will be presenting a selection of abstract paintings. She will exhibit a contemporary work imbued with a great sensivity. Fabienne paints very close to her canvas, no brush, no palette, using scrapers or sponges and is constantly looking for new ways to express her creativity. (www.fabiennecuter.com)

    DJ Vinny King has created his personalized style in: world music, jazz, Reggae, African music, Rock n Roll, Disco, Funk, Hip Hop... He has become one of the Greatest Deejays with a special taste of music, and an experience that he has acquired collaborating in the music industry.

    Joël Pommerat, né en 1963, est un auteur dramatique, metteur en scène français qui ne monte que ses propres textes. Il fonde en 1990 la Compagnie Louis Brouillard et crée ses premiers spectacles au Théâtre de la Main d'Or à Paris.
