Singer-songwriter Arie Thompson discusses why and how she translated Max Rouquette’s Médée, an Occitan/French/Bambara version of the Medea story, for an American audience. Rouquette borrows the story of Medea—a woman scorned by the man she loved once she has uprooted herself to live in a foreign land—from Euripides, but refashions her plight to foreground her status as refugee.
