  • Jun 24, 2014 to Aug 29, 2014
  • Location: Film Forum
  • Description:

The Weinstein Company is proud to announce the release of  YVES SAINT LAURENT, directed by Jalil Lespert, and starring Pierre Niney as the legendary fashion designer.  The young design genius who left French Algeria as a teenager to work for Christian Dior, took over the House of Dior at age 21 in January 1958. He and his partner, Pierre Bergé, famously launched their own fashion label in 1962, and the rest is history.   YVES SAINT LAURENT is scheduled to open in New York and Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 25 followed by engagements nationwide.

Brilliantly capturing YSL’s shyness, charm, and artistic bravado, Pierre Niney morphs into the role without so much as a wrinkle. Drawing upon a vast archive of original material (made available to the production by the 83-year-old Pierre Bergé -- 5,000 dresses, 15,000 accessories, and 35,000 sketches), director Jalil Lespert puts the designer’s groundbreaking work on screen. Still gloriously beautiful are his Mondrian dresses, tuxedos for wome

  • Jul 17, 2014 to Aug 29, 2014
  • Location: Landmark Sunshine Theater
  • Description:

Drafthouse Films is proud to announce the release of Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)’s  MOOD INDIGO, starring Romain Duris (Chinese Puzzle, The Beat that My Heart Skipped) and Audrey Tautou (Amélie, Coco Before Chanel), set in a charmingly surreal Paris, which won a 2014 César for Best Production Design. The director’s cut for American audiences is scheduled to open in New York (at Sunshine Cinema) and Los Angeles on Friday, July 18 followed by a national roll out.

Eminently inventive Michel Gondry finds an ideal counterpart in Boris Vian, whose novel provides the foundation for this visionary love story. Romain Duris plays wealthy bachelor Colin, whose hobbies include developing his pianocktail (a cocktail-making piano) and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas (Omar Sy, The Untouchables).  When Colin learns that his best friend Chick (Gad Elmaleh, The Valet), a fellow acolyte of the philosopher Jean-Sol Partre, has a new American girlf

  • Blandine Girerd: Fantastic Fictions in Paint

  • Jul 29, 2014 at 7:00am to Aug 19, 2014 at 2:00pm
  • Location: 530 West 25th St, Chelsea, New York
  • Description:

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of French artist Blandine Girerd in Verve of Abstraction.

Artist Blandine Girerd is a natural colorist. Her acrylic on canvas works are ripe with symbolism and anchored in figurative abstraction. Inspired by hue, vibration and music, her works are full of dynamically contrasting elements and are teeming with light. Gestural and instinctive, with a pure love of materiality, Girerd’s process incorporates the use of inks, scratching and collage for textural variety and plentiful rhythm. Delving into fantasy realms, her compositions invite a feeling of mystery and utilize color intensity as an expressive force. Although she favors blue, particularly darker shades and turquoise, no matter the color Girerd always rides fiercely to the psychological depth of her hues. Occasionally, she creates monochromatic works, zeroing in on the capacity of one color and mining its emotional and metaphysical riches.

    Blandine Girerd was bo

  • Description:

Ballet des Amériques is pleased to announce its 2014 Summer Intensive program. Summer intensives have a long tradition in the world of dance - bridging the gap between the spring and fall semesters - but also fulfilling a complementary role with respect to the regular school curriculum: Largely free from academic obligations, students are able to concentrate on dance and make leaps of progress in training, iron out weaknesses, and consolidate what was achieved during the academic year. Quite importantly, the warmth of the summer months makes for greatly increased flexibility, which, when intensely exercised, can propel students to a higher level. Please consult the schedule below.

    Summer Intensive 1 (3-week program; July 7 - July 25)
Elementary - Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

  • Jealousy - a Philippe Garrel Film opens in New York August 15th

  • Aug 15, 2014 at 8:00am to Aug 29, 2014 at 7:00pm
  • Location: Elinor Bunin Monroe Film Center
  • Description:

Philippe Garrel is one of the major French filmmakers of the post-New Wave who has slowly begun to gain recognition in America. Shot in lustrous, widescreen black and white, JEALOUSY may be Philippe Garrel’s most accessible film in nearly 50 years of filmmaking. The film opens with a man leaving his wife and daughter and, in a series of brief conversations, observed gestures, chance encounters and impulsive acts, tells the story of the relationships that flounder and thrive in the wake of this decision. Louis Garrel, the director’s son and frequent star, plays the husband, who moves into a garret apartment with his fellow actor girlfriend (Anne Mouglalis) as they struggle with fidelity and the temptation to give up their art for an easier life. Shot with Garrel’s celebrated sensitivity and attention to faces, bodies, hands and the intricacies of the human heart, Jealousy is an especially intimate, deeply poignant and never less than enthralling tale of love, temptation and betrayal.
