Drafthouse Films is proud to announce the release of Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)’s  MOOD INDIGO, starring Romain Duris (Chinese Puzzle, The Beat that My Heart Skipped) and Audrey Tautou (Amélie, Coco Before Chanel), set in a charmingly surreal Paris, which won a 2014 César for Best Production Design. The director’s cut for American audiences is scheduled to open in New York (at Sunshine Cinema) and Los Angeles on Friday, July 18 followed by a national roll out.

Eminently inventive Michel Gondry finds an ideal counterpart in Boris Vian, whose novel provides the foundation for this visionary love story. Romain Duris plays wealthy bachelor Colin, whose hobbies include developing his pianocktail (a cocktail-making piano) and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas (Omar Sy, The Untouchables).  When Colin learns that his best friend Chick (Gad Elmaleh, The Valet), a fellow acolyte of the philosopher Jean-Sol Partre, has a new American girlfriend, our lonely hero attends a friend’s party in hopes of falling in love himself.  He soon meets Chloé (Audrey Tautou) and, before they know it, they’re dancing to Duke Ellington and plunging headfirst into a romance that Gondry rapturously depicts as only he can.  Their whirlwind courtship is tested when an unusual illness plagues Chloé; a water lily begins to grow in her lungs.  To save her, Colin discovers the only cure is to surround Chloé with a never-ending supply of fresh flowers.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Michel Gondry began his career directing music videos for artists including Daft Punk, Beck, Radiohead, Paul McCartney and The White Stripes.  Since his debut film Human Nature, Gondry has gone on to direct The Science of Sleep, Be Kind Rewind, The Green Hornet and The We and the I.  This year marks the 20th anniversary of his second feature film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which earned Gondry an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

One of France’s best known and most versatile actors, Romain Duris’ films include The Beat that My Heart Skipped, Heartbreaker, and Francois Ozon’s upcoming The New Girlfriend.  He stars alongside Audrey Tautou in Chinese Puzzle currently on US screens.

Audrey Tautou shot to international fame with Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amélie, and has since starred in numerous films including Stephen Frears’ Dirty Pretty Things, Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code, Mr. Jeunet’s A Very Long Engagement, Anne Fontaine’s Coco Before Chanel and Cédric Klapisch’s Chinese Puzzle.

Canadian model turned actress Charlotte Le Bon will be seen this summer as Yves Saint Laurent muse Victoire Doutreleau in Jalil Lespert’s Yves Saint Laurent as well as Lasse Halstrom’s The Hundred-Foot Journey. She has next been cast as the girlfriend of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Robert Zemeckis’ To Reach the Clouds.
