  • Marcel Duchamp: tant Donns

  • Aug 14, 2009 to Nov 29, 2009
  • Location: Philadelphia, USA Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Description: tant Donns, Duchamps last major work, has been described by Jasper Johns as é’“the strangest work of art in any museum. What at first looks like an boarded-up wooden door is actually a tableau visible only through two peep holes, which reveal a half-hidden naked woman in a landscape. Duchamp worked on the piece in secret for 20 years, while even his friends thought he had given up his art, and it was only revealed to the public when it was posthumously installed in the museum. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its first display, and in memory of the late director Anne dHarnoncourt, who oversaw the original installation as a 25-year-old assistant, the museum has organised this show of 80 studies, photographs, erotic objects and other documents.

  • Nov 4, 2009 at 5:00am to Dec 23, 2009 at 12:00pm
  • Location: Elizabeth Dee Gallery
  • Description:

The term “second nature” refers both to man’s ability to intervene in his environment and to the result of this intervention- a capacity that distinguishes him from other elements in the first nature. Man’s increasing domination of nature has often been criticized as an artificial construction, most notably since the 20th century. Both populist and Marxist propaganda, but also various strands of esotericism which aimed to curtail man’s place in the universe, have thus spread the fear that this growing domination of nature will reduce man’s own naturalness and tighten the grip of (capitalist) society.

Written by German playwright Heiner Müller (as a highly condensed adaptation of the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses), this work is an extraordinary expression of innocence lost. The incomparable French actress Isabelle Huppert is the toxic Marquise de Merteuil, seething with fury opposite her perverse partner in crime Valmont, played with marvelous physicality by Ariel Garcia Valdès. As Wilson unfurls his stylized choreography and tableaux motifs with stark sounds and saturated colors, he transforms every calculated movement into gorgeous and provocative studies of character."...a towering figure in the world of experimental theater...Mr. Wilson is a paradigm of precision." —The New York TimesLocation: Brooklyn Academy of Music (

  • Nov 14, 2009 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm
  • Location: Zebulon
  • Description: The explosive « Chevrotine », French group Holden’s third album, stands out radically in the pop landscape: French rock in form of bad Western; the universe of the music from here is indeed blocked by second knives, which play the main roles…Whether it be with the excellent albums « The back-world » and « Pedrolira », Holden has never received the much deserved praise from critics that everyone was waiting for. Which could be considered a real shame considering the quality of the compositions! But after all it doesn’t matter, « Chevrotine » is ready to shoot its singles up the charts.
