Please join us, and our special guest Anne Bachelier for an opening reception to be held at AFA in New York on September 21, from 6-8PM, followed by a book-signing on September 22 from 2-4PM. The exhibition "Phantasmagoria" will feature 40 new oil paintings on canvas and paper by the French artist and illustrator who will also autograph copies of her books: 13 plus 1 by Edgar Allan PoeThe Phantom of the Opera and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, all published by CFM Gallery.

The art of Anne Bachelier depicts a mystical, enigmatic and esoteric world populated by intriguing figures. Surreal, curious and fantastic characters and other chimerical creatures portray a timeless realm of flamboyant fantasies. Bachelier's paintings are richly textured and often embellished with silver or gold leaf, ink and layers of paint that utilize a rich spectrum of hot colors frequently set in stark contrasts.

About the Artist: Anne Bachelier was born in Louvigne du Desert, France. She studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, La Seyne-Sur-Mer between 1966 and 1970.  Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Europe and North America and a fine art monograph, with over 400 full-color reproductions, was released in 2001. Widely accepted as a master of line and detail, Bachelier draws the viewer into narratives that are at once challenging, vivid, and layered with symbolism. Anne Bachelier lives and works in seclusion just South of Geneva in France. This is the artist's first solo exhibition with AFA.
