Vanida Amiot's Vivacious Art At Agora Gallery
- Sep 10, 2013 at 7:00am to Oct 1, 2013 at 2:00pm EDT
- Location: Agora Gallery
- Description:
The ethereal, enchanting images of Vanida Amiot are displayed in a mesmerizing solo exhibition at Agora Gallery this September. Although she is firmly abstract in her art, eschewing representational images, Amiot also takes care to engage the imagination of her audience, often giving works titles that reference something as specific as it is conceptual. This, combined with her skillful, delicate touch when it comes to composition, color and brushstrokes, means that every work seems to speak directly to the viewer with a message of importance and interest. Subtle yet assertive, this is artwork that exudes a sense of presence as impossible to ignore as it is to deny. The exhibition will begin on September 10, 2013 and run until October 1, 2013, with an opening reception on the evening of Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 6-8PM. Entrance is free and anyone seeking some inspiration to start the fall season is encouraged to attend.

International Conference: Re-Thinking Literature
- Sep 18, 2013 to Sep 21, 2013
- Location: Hemmerdinger Hall, NYU, Ground floor, Silver Center
- Description:
Re-Thinking Literature brings together philosophers, writers, critics and theoreticians of literature and art, to examine what, in the 21st Century, is understood when we speak about “literature.” We still ask familiar questions such as “What is the situation of the writer today? What does literature mean today?” but ask them today undetermined by preexisting “isms,” past the dogmas of recent years, post-Post, as it were. Re-Thinking Literature seeks new, multiple perspectives for the meaning and significance of the cultural construct “literature” today—and examines how a younger generation of literary thinkers and practitioners deals with it.
Organized by Donatien Grau and Tom Bishop.
All presentations in English. Free and open to the public.
Conference schedule
This conference is made possible by the generous support of The Florence Gould Foundation, The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and the Institut Français.
