In this video: "Happy Valentine's Day!" French Immersion Special

Love is in the air and I feel so much love for my students that6 I want to share with you this romantic retreat experience in Paris.

Imagine it's 7AM. Your eyes pop open as the first rays of sun stream through the window. You get up and look out to see the Eiffel Tower standing majestically in the distance.

"It's going to be a Paris kind of day", you tell yourself. And it is.

You dress quickly and take the Metro Line 4, get off at Saint-Michel station (closest to Shakespeare & Co. bookstore), where I am waiting for you. You sit down at a bustling café and order a croissant and a cappuccino Chantilly.

"As tu bien dormi?" I ask you.

"Oui, très bien", you respond. And so your day of French immersion begins. As other retreaters stream in, you engage in charming French conversation. Nibbling your crusty croissant and sipping your strong coffee, you think to yourself: "Now this is the life. (Alors, c'est ça la vie que j'ai envie de mener.)"

As the conversation dies down, I explain your schedule for the day. Erica and I want to make sure you get comfortable speaking French on your own, so you will have the morning free to explore. We provide suggestions on cool neighbourhoods that are off of the beaten path, and tell you of a secret chocolate hideaway where you can nibble on delicious candies to your heart's content.

I warn you to not get too carried away though because you will meet at 4:30P to attend your French gourmet cooking class.

And so you set off . . .

At 16:30 you promptly meet up with the group, and you head to La Cuisine Paris. You are nervous because you've heard that French chefs take their food very seriously, but I assure you that this will be a fun experience where you will practice the language while cooking and eating amazing French delicacies. The class is fun. So much in fact, that you forget you're there to learn cooking and French. This is the way to learn a language!

After the meal is prepared and the kitchen is cleaned, you and the group sit down to the meal that you helped prepare. Sipping on champagne, you can't believe that you are having such an amazing authentic experience.

The conversation is lively and exhilarating; all the more so because it's in French. You are feeling content and happy and getting more and more confident with your speaking and comprehension by the minute. You feel as if the possibilities for improving your French are endless and can't wait for tomorrow. You're going to conquer the other half of the world.
