French are extravagant, sassy, they don't smile, they don't take showers, they are arrogant blablablabla ....Follow this British family across their adventuring discovery of French people, an "objective", funny and bucking the cliches book.

They had been there often as tourists. They had cherished the dream of someday living all year under the Provencal sun. And suddenly it happened. Here is the month-by-month account of the charms and frustrations that Peter Mayle and his wife -- and their two large dogs -- experience their first year in the remote country of the Luberon restoring a two-centuries-old stone farmhouse that they bought on sight. From coping in January with the first mistral, which comes howling down from the Rhone Valley and wreaks havoc with the pipes, to dealing as the months go by with the disarming promises and procrastination of the local masons and plumbers, Peter Mayle delights us with his strategies for survival.

  • Yes, you're right ! Peter Mayle painted a very funny and pitoresque "fresque" of Provence through real people living there in the heart of the Luberon...telling us about what life and relationships are like in this little region of the world...
Peter Mayle wrote other stories in the same way which also take place in the Lubéron where he lived for a few years and got to know all the people there...
Did you know that he wrote another book with a "boulanger" from Cavaillon about "how to make bread" and stories about bread and people...I guess that this last book his probably less known than the others...but worth of interest too...

Have a wonderful summer in the heart of Provence with Peter Mayle !
