In this talk, Giuseppe Gazzola, a specialist of nineteenth century Italian literature who teaches at SUNY Stonybrook, will discuss the border crossings and literary connections between the Italian Futurist Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876-1944) and the French symbolist Stéphane Mallarmé (1842-1898). In particular, Gazzola will read from and then discuss Marinetti’s unpublished translations of Mallarmé, with an eye to explaining how we can understand more about both poets via this textual trace of influence. Gazzola will also talk about the modern edition of these translations that he is currently preparing. The talk is free and open to the public.Ella Weed Room2nd Floor Milbank HallFor more information, contact BarnardTranslation@gmail.com
