«8 PM. A death row somewhere. William Lamers is sentenced to death by lethal injection. The Law does not specify the length of a last statement, so he will take advantage of this loophole to escape his sentence. This execution which should have been a formality will then become the most incredible political issue, engulfed in a media franzy.»
The French speaking Belgium film industry have found a new voice in a Dead Man Talking. In the 1990s, trail blazer movies such as Man Bites Dog (dir. Benoît Poelvoorde, Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel) took-off from the tarmac flying high the Belgium banner in the international movie stardom. Many others followed, gaining recognitions that once for all put Belgium in a favorable and respected spot.
With Dead Man Talking, Patrick Ridremont and his excellent team offer another cinematographic breakthrough to an already richly creative industry.
For his first full-length film, the Belgian director, co-writer, and actor experiments, with audacious bravery, the sensitive topic of the death penalty. Juggling with extreme dexterity, humor and rocambolesque situations, this dramatic-comedy drives us from tears to laughter in a farandole of emotions.
You are cordially invited to the special screening of Dead Man Talking on Tuesday, November 6, 7PM, at the Tribeca Cinemas, followed by a cocktail with Patrick Ridremont.
Awards: Audience Award at the 27th Francophone Film Festival, Namur, Belgique * 2012 Audience Award at the Young Filmmaker's Festival of Saint-Jean de Luz, France.
