The devastating images from Haiti’s capital have been a call to action for many New Yorkers who want to lend their help and assistance. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti and to the Haitian community here in New York City, many of whom are now seeking information about their loved ones.Relief efforts are already underway by the United Nations and hundreds of countries. However, as details of what exactly is needed in Haiti are yet to be unveiled, New Yorkers have an opportunity to leave a lasting, concrete contribution to the embattled nation in this time of tragedy. My office, spearheaded by Deputy Borough President Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, a Haitian American, have quickly organized together with The Haitian Roundtable a major fundraising event to provide the US fund for UNICEF, one of the organizations leading the relief efforts on the scene, with much needed funding for the purchase of supplies and equipment that address Haiti’s most urgent needs.New Yorkers for Haiti Fundraiser Details:When: Friday, January 15, 6:00pm-8:30pmWhere: Talay Restaurant 701 West 135th Street at 12th Ave
