Friday, October 23rd: Alice and Cecile, French singersAlice & Cécile have always sung since early childhood. Their passion for music is not a question of genes as there are no musicians or singers within their family circle, except on the occasion of family parties when grandparents traditionally sing a song. Both twin sisters learnt on their own, training their ear by listening to the albums of their parents’ record collection over and over again.Alice & Cécile were first spotted in some New York jazz club on the occasion of a stay across the Atlantic. On their return to France, both talented twin sisters were then soon taken charge of by the guitarist and producer Patrick Saussois, who made them record their very first album - 5 cover versions and 6 original compositions – under the DJAZ Records label. With their undeniable charm and their deceptively "Young Girls of Rochefort"-like appearance (in reference to the 1960s film composer Michel Legrand), the two young singers reinvent a French-style vocal jazz which combines, with both lightness and voluptuousness, jazz standards and French or international songs, swing and cleverness of the lyrics, flavours of Brazilian music and cross chord adaptations. Alice & Cécile thus pleasantly reconcile jazz lovers with the general public, in the same way as Thomas Dutronc or Henri Salvador among other prestigious artists. Several countries in Asia already have succumbed to the young ladies’ French charming style: their album is widely distributed in Malaysia, in Singapore, in Hong Kong, as well as in Indonesia. This lovely twin singing duo is also greatly seconded on stage by some of the biggest names on the French jazz scene: Pierrick Pedron, Alain Jean-Marie, Patrick Saussois, Pierre-Yves Sorin, etc. An all-star band accompanying the twin singers on every stage, in every jazz club of Paris and at every festival where they perform, invited as guest performers by Dee Dee Bridgewater herself.Alice & Cécile are planning to perform in Southeast Asia and thus meet their fans there. They are preparing to go on a New York live tour in April 2009 while working on their second album (to be released in late 2010).
