FIAF is proud and honored to welcome the heralded film producer and filmmaker Véra Belmont, a true force in French cinema. The series is dedicated to the many hats that Belmont wears, and is divided by themes to showcase her varied talents as both a producer and filmmaker. She is a great supporter and creator of film and through the years has sought out new talent, producing the first films by Maurice Pialat and André Téchiné.Farinelli (12:30 & 7:30pm): Farinelli was the greatest castrato of the 18th century—a distinction that proved to be a gift and curse. Through this sumptuous spectacle of a film, Corbiau explores the complicated relationships Farinelli maintained with his family and, particularly, the scores of women who loved him.Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes in 1995.Marquise (4pm): Though she started as an actress and later became a producer, Belmont has also found success as a director. With Marquise, Belmont vibrantly recreates 17th-century France to tell the story of the young woman who romanced Racine and performed with Molière. In the title role, Sophie Marceau is entirely winning.Screening Schedule:April 6: 'Naked Childhood' at 12:30, 4, 7:30pmApril 13: 'Quest for Fire' at 12:30, 4, *7:30pm (*special presentation by co-curator & filmmaker Jackie Raynal, who worked on-set for this film)April 20: 'Farinelli' at 12:30, 7:30pmApril 20: 'Marquise' at 4pmApril 27: 'Red Kiss' at 12:30, 4pmApril 27: 'Véra Belmont presents Surviving with Wolves' at 7pm (special presentation by Véra Belmont & Jackie Raynal, followed by a Q&A session)Free for FIAF members; $7 for students w/ ID; $10 general admission. For ticketing / information: http://www.fiaf.org/french%20film/spring2010/2010-04-ct-vera-belmont.shtml
