Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday

 

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is the leading French language and cultural center in the U.S. Since 1898, FIAF has been dedicated to creating and offering New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts, all exploring the evolving diversity and richness of French cultures.

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 6,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ.

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Education, the Summer French Day Camps Director is

responsible for the direct care and supervision of all campers and teachers/volunteers, promoting and actively participating in all camp activities, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for campers and teachers/volunteers.

 

Main responsibilities

 

  • Group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development
  • Create a high-energy, fun, and creative experience for campers
  • Manage daily drop-off and pick-up procedure
  • Serve as a positive role model to campers and teachers/volunteers
  • Monitor the organization, supervision, and administration of all activities and assemblies
  • Coordinates daily transportation and schedules of all camps
  • Conduct weekly briefings with teachers
  • Model behavior & group management strategies for groups
  • Monitor safety and security of all campers and teachers/volunteers
  • Conduct tours of the camp facilities and program areas to prospective camp families
  • Participate in camp activities to the extent necessary for proper awareness and supervisory functioning
  • Establish procedures, routines and practices for camp operations
  • Ensure that risk prevention and crisis management plans are implemented.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Complete paperwork as assigned

 

 

Qualifications/requirements

  • Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency
  • Candidates must a minimum of 21 years old
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain these prior to the 1st day of employment.
  • An official diploma similar to a BAFA (Brevet d’Aptitude aux Fonctions d’Animateur) is a plus
  • Must have experience working with children 1 to 17
  • Must demonstrate a strong capacity to work in a team environment in a professional manner, positive attitude, excellent judgement, ability to identify problems and work quickly to find solutions
  • Must be able to adapt to multiple and shifting priorities, to deal with high stress situations and to work well under pressure, to perform several tasks concurrently.
  • Must have prior knowledge of/practical experience in: camper psychology, peer leadership and supervision, staff management & motivation.

Our program offers a high level of language instruction through curricula that are specially designed to meet children's pedagogical needs at every stage of their development. All our classes provide an integrated approach to French language and culture.

Since 2012, the FIAF Preschool has been offering a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2½ to 4.

Position Summary: The director of Preschool and Youth Programs, a full-time position, is responsible for the conception, development, organization and promotion of onsite and offsite youth programs and oversees the day to day operations of the FIAF preschool.

Main Responsibilities
The Director is committed to the highest level of customer service and strives to foster excellent public relations as a key motivation. The Director is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education of FIAF, and works with the other FIAF departments to ensure a coordinated and unified service.

• The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the youth programs and the preschool: scheduling of classes and instructors, submission of proposals to clients, follow-up at the administrative and pedagogical levels, budgeting and billing, statistics, technology enhancements, reports and development of customized programs.

• The Director is responsible for the development of the preschool and youth programs client base: canvassing of clients, establishment of sales objectives, statistics, and creation of marketing campaigns and materials.

• The Director is responsible for the development of new products and services in response to evolving needs and ensures long-term planning of the service.

Additional Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Pedagogical Responsibilities

• Develop and enrich the youth programs class offerings, based on clients survey and competition
• Organize and lead teacher training sessions
• Evaluate and improve teacher performance through classroom observations and coaching
• Stay current with the latest methodology, pedagogical resources and technology for the teaching of French as a foreign language to a young audience
• Stay current with the official French curricula for preschool’s instructions as well as teaching French as a foreign language (official curriculum of the French Ministry of Education and European Framework)
• Substitute for a teacher classes and conduct placement test occasionally
• Organize weekly meetings with the preschool staff
• Fine-tune the preschool’s curriculum and evaluations

Teachers Management/Human Resources

• Manage a team of about 30-40 part-time teachers in the youth programs
• Advise teachers on pedagogy and available pedagogical resources
• Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team
• Recruit, train, and assist new instructors

Administrative tasks

• Schedule classes at the beginning of each session
• Assign classes to teachers
• Oversee enrollment in youth programs classes/workshops
• Assist with the registration/transfer process at the start of each session
• Ensure that classes run smoothly (supply orders, snacks etc)
• Hire and train new interns (responsibility assignments)
• Recruit new students/families and organize observation days for the preschool
• Communicate with parents via email on a regular basis
• Create the school year calendar
• Make sure that the preschool is in compliance with the Department of health rules and regulations

Business Development

• Communicate program content and updates to parents and answer inquiries
• Meet with parents regularly to ensure their satisfaction and re-enrollment
• Seek out prospective clients and ensure enrollment (fairs, open houses… etc)
• Foster a positive relationship between students, parents and instructors
• Stay current with the class offerings of our competitors for young French learners as well as with their marketing strategies (web content, etc) in order to establish FIAF as a leader in the field
• Participate in the elaboration and implementation of FIAF cultural programs for kids
• Collaborate with FIAF sponsors (kids programs)
• Nurture partnerships with youth literature and FLE publishers

• Master 1 or 2 minimum in the field of teaching French as a foreign language or DAEFLE (diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du français langue étrangère)
• An official teaching diploma (diplôme de professeur des écoles or equivalent) a plus
• A minimum of two years’ experience in teaching French as a foreign language to a young audience
• Have good knowledge and understanding of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for the teaching of Foreign Languages) and the Ministry of Education curriculum for preschool
• Must be knowledgeable on pedagogy as it relates to French language instruction for children 1 to 17 years old
• Must be knowledgeable with technologies applied to the teaching of foreign languages
• Must be knowledgeable with Smart Board technology
• Must demonstrate a strong capacity to work in a team environment
• Must be able to adapt to multiple and shifting priorities, be meticulous, thorough and detail- oriented, and be able to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

Preschool Aid

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) Preschool, a French immersion program, taught entirely in French, for toddlers ages 3 and 4 is looking for a part-time (12:30-2:15pm) school aid, 5 days a week when the school is in session, who will be responsible to provide assistance during naptime and recess in Central Park.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervise children during nap and clean up after naptime
  2. Accompany students to Central Park for recess
  3. Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of dangers, observation of children at play or at rest, and by appropriately responding to injuries.
  4. Respect school’s philosophy and policies

 

Qualified candidates must be 21, fluent in French, and have a high school diploma.  The ideal candidate has worked with children before (camp counselor, youth groups, etc…). Must be punctual, reliable and energetic. All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.

RESPONSIBILITES

Le Centre de Langue du FIAF est la plus grande école de langue dédiée à l’enseignement du français de la région de New York. Avec plus de 7000 inscriptions par an, nous offrons des cours de français dans nos trois implantations idéalement situées dans l’Upper East Side de Manhattan, dans le quartier de Carroll Gardens à Brooklyn et à Montclair, dans le New Jersey.

Résumé du poste : le manager des cours privés et en entreprises, poste à plein temps, est responsable de la conception, du développement, de l’organisation et de la promotion, au sein du FIAF et à l’extérieur, des cours privés et en entreprises pour le centre de langue du French Institute Alliance Française, la plus grande école de langue de français aux Etats-Unis.

 

Principales responsabilités

Le manager garantit un service client de grande qualité et s’attache à maintenir d’excellentes relations avec le public. Le manager est sous la direction du vice-président éducation et collabore avec les autres départements du FIAF afin d’assurer un service coordonné et harmonieux.

 

  • Le manager est responsable des opérations quotidiennes du centre de langue du FIAF: organisation des emplois du temps des classes et des enseignants; soumission des offres aux clients, appels d’offres, suivi administratifs et pédagogiques, gestion du budget et facturation, statistiques, rapports d’activités and développement de programmes sur mesure.

 

  • Le manager est responsable du développement des programmes en entreprises: sondages auprès des clients, établissement d’objectifs de ventes, statistiques et création de campagnes et de matériel marketing.

 

  • Le manager est  responsable du développement de nouveaux produits et services en réponse à l’évolution des besoins privés et en entreprises mais aussi d’anticiper les services sur le long terme.

Service client

  • Répondre au téléphone et aux courriels
  • Recevoir et accueillir des clients dans nos locaux

Administration

  • Organiser les emplois du temps des enseignants et le plan d’occupation des classes
  • Approuver les heures des enseignants et les soumettre à la comptabilité
  • Maintenir à jour la base de données et la facturation des clients privés et entreprises
  • Coordonner avec les enseignants et les autres membres de l’équipe du centre de langue
  • Gérer les changements et mises à jour quotidiens, les annulations et les changements d’emploi du temps
