The webmaster is in charge of www.frenchculture.org, the website of the French Embassy’s Cultural
Services in the United States. Frenchculture.org receives over 50,000 hits a month, and is a well-respected
source of up-to-date information on French cultural events throughout the United States. The webmaster also
runs the Frenchculture.org facebook, flickr and twitter accounts. In addition to these duties, he/she handles
certain graphic design and document layout tasks (creation of ads, banners, brochures, invitations…).
Please note that only candidates with the legal right to work in the U.S. will be considered.
Responsibilities:
The webmaster/online editor will work closely with the Cultural Services’ various departments to rebuild
Frenchculture.org and its associated sites (on facebook, flickr and twitter notably) both in term of content and
design. He/she must keep it updated and running smoothly (soliciting information, writing and editing articles for
the site, finding and editing photos…). He/she will develop and maintain the site’s navigational structure,
templates, pages and graphics presentation. He/she will be able to evaluate the success of our internet outreach,
including setting key performance indicators, monitoring visitor statistics, feedback and participation. He/she may
also be asked to develop new media offerings (digital video, podcasts, blogs...).
The webmaster/online editor will design communication materials, such as ads, banners, brochures, and
invitations, in order to promote the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the events it organizes or
sponsors.
Required skills: -Expert experience administrating a website (please give examples of web addresses
where you were the sole or main web editor)
-Advanced knowledge of html and php and other web languages (flash, CSS)
-Advanced knowledge of web administration procedures and techniques (control panel,
domain name registration / renewal, statistics).
-Mastery of web-related software (eg. Dreamweaver, Filezilla)
-Strong photo editing skills (Photoshop).
-Strong layout skills (Quark Xpress).
-Fluent in English and French (oral and written)
-Excellent editorial skills. Ability to write engagingly and convincingly for the web.
Desirable skills: -Excellent general knowledge of French and American cultural affairs in the fields of
cinema, literature, visual and performing arts, and academic affairs
-Knowledge of SPIP programming language.
-Social media-savvy (facebook, twitter…)
-Photography skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience or knowledge of external and internal communications in an international
context.
- Awareness of the work of the French Embassy and the French Ministries of Foreign
Affairs and Culture in the fields of culture and education.
