The Communications Associate will assist the Communications Officer in all aspects of the Cultural Services’ outreach activities. Tasks will include (but will not be limited to) updating www.frenchculture.org, the website of the French Embassy’s Cultural Services in the United States, as well as the Frenchculture.org, facebook, flickr and twitter accounts; performing a daily press review of American and French media outlets; handling graphic design and document layout tasks (creation of ads, banners, brochures, invitations…); and generally helping market the events sponsored or supported by the French Cultural Services.

Please note that only candidates with the legal right to work in the U.S. will be considered.

Responsibilities:
The Communications Associate will work closely with the Communications Officer and the Cultural Services’ various departments to promote the events it organizes or sponsors. In particular, the Communications Associate will help keep Frenchculture.org and its associated sites (on facebook, flickr and twitter) updated and running smoothly (soliciting information, writing and editing articles for the site, finding and editing photos…). The Communications Associate will conduct daily press reviews to keep the Embassy abreast of media coverage of French culture in the U.S. and of new developments and trends in the fields of culture, education and new media. He/she will also design communication materials, such as ads, banners, brochures, and invitations. The Communications Associate may also be asked to participate in media outreach activities (pitching articles, requesting listings, updating the press database), as needed.

Required skills:
-Excellent communication and marketing skills in English
-Strong layout skills (Quark Xpress).
-Experience with web-related software (Dreamweaver, Filezilla…)
-Strong photo editing skills (Photoshop).
-Fluent French (oral and written).

Desirable skills:
-Excellent general knowledge of French and American cultural affairs in the fields of
cinema, literature, visual and performing arts, and academic affairs.
-Experience of external and internal communications in an international context
-Strong interpersonal skills
-Social media-savvy (facebook, twitter…)
-Awareness of the work of the French Embassy and of the French Ministries of
Foreign Affairs and Culture in the fields of culture and education
-Photography skills
