Job:  Summer Day Camp Director

Location:  TWO locations:  PS 58 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn AND PS 84 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan

Dates:   February 1st through August 31st, 2013. Part-time from February 1st to June 30th and reserve. Full- time from July 1st to August 31.

Hours: Part-time from 2/01/2013 to 06/30/2013 (fluctuating hours TBD), and 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM from 7/01/2013 to 08/31/2013.

 

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be at least 21 years old
  • French Fluent (French native is preferred)
  • 2 years camping experience and supervisory experience
  • Must have strong communication skills, a positive attitude, initiative, flexibility, dependability, creativity and ability to work and problem-solve as a team member.
  • Must possess First Aid and CPR Certifications, or ability to obtain both certifications prior to July 1, 2013.
  • Mental and physical stamina to deal with high stress situations; work well under pressure.
  • Ability to flexibly manage several tasks concurrently.
  • Knowledge of/practical experience in:  cabin leadership, camper psychology, peer leadership and supervision, staff management and motivation.

 

Job Description:

Create separate thematic, detailed programs for each week of summer camp.  Research and reserve, pre-trip and select appropriate trips/outings and activities for each camp location and each grade. Create and maintain schedule of those activities throughout the summer. Select engaging games, songs, and sports that are conducted throughout the summer. Distribute tasks to different staff members. Organize detailed weekly schedule for each camp site.

Communicate daily with the 2 Camp Site Directors to ensure the quality and delivery of the programs’ activities.  Coordinate with service provider before and at the time of larger, special events.  Travel between the two camp locations to oversee the implementation of activities with the Camp Site Directors.

Perform a biweekly evaluation of all counselors on staff in collaboration with each Camp Site Director.
