Job Opening: Columbia in Paris

The Columbia-Penn Program in Paris at Reid Hall seeks candidates for the position of Director of its undergraduate study abroad programs based in Paris, France. These programs are administered by the Office of Global Programs (OGP) atColumbia University and offers semester, academic year, and summer programs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Global Programs and working closely with Columbia University's OGP and the Columbia-Penn Faculty Advisory Committee, the Director is responsible for the oversight of the academic programs, student affairs, and administrative and financial management. The Director supervises administrative staff that assists in all areas of program management. The Director is charged with nourishing an intellectual and social environment that is supportive of excellence and high academic standards.

Specific duties include:


- Enable student and faculty use of local libraries and other scholarly resources. 
- Oversee the general functioning of French University exchange agreements. 
- Develop linkages with local academic communities, government agencies in France, alumni and donors 
- Maintain a regular on-site presence, providing advice and resources to students on academic, intellectual and personal matters. 
- Supervise student homestays, apartments, and dorm-room residencies in liaison with the outsourced housing service inParis. 
- Organize and deliver orientation programs for incoming students; generate and oversee all orientation materials. 
- Maintain discipline among students and handle emergencies in partnership with local security, medical resources, and the OGP. 
- Supervise the organization of social and cultural events for students. 
- Facilitate student involvement in community activities and cultural opportunities. 
- On-call 24/7 to troubleshoot emergencies. 
- Manage staff including hiring, training, motivating, evaluating performance and setting salaries according to CU and A&S policies. 
- Work directly with Columbia OGP to prepare annual budget; manage all fiscal activities for a ~$2 million budget 
- Manage office space and arrange for service contracts and legal services as needed. 
- Manage the technological infrastructure for academic and administrative purposes, in coordination with Columbia OGP, including all web-based documentation and resources. 
- Work with local organizations to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations. 
- Supervise all financial aspects pertaining to bank accounts, payment of services, payroll, etc. 
- Represent the programs in France, Europe, and USA. 
- Participate in student recruitment. 
- Yearly report on program activities to the appropriate committees at Columbia and at partner universities. 
- Works closely with French Institutions. 
- Work in close contact with all administrative staff of Columbia OGP.

- Host visitors and maintain contact with advocates for the program.

- Provide all necessary documents, information for the Columbia website, etc. 
- Supervises approximately 5 to 7 employees. 

The Director must also be academically qualified to hold an appointment as an adjunct officer of instruction in the grade of adjunct professor, adjunct associate professor, or adjunct assistant professor. The specific duties attached to this appointment include:

- Teach no more than two courses per year, oversee the approval of the curricular program, oversee the appointment and teaching of faculty in the program. 

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN PARIS, FRANCE.  

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience required.
