The Montclair Branch of the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is looking for a full-time Assistant Teacher for its à petits pas Excellence program, a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2.5 and 5. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for supporting the teachers with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in preschool aged children. The position includes after-school care responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS | REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS |
o Assist teachers in the implementation of the curriculum. o Assist teachers with preparation of lesson plans. o Assist teachers with the organization of classroom activities. o Assist teachers with administrative tasks including but not limited to tracking students’ daily attendance, communicating with parents about daily classroom activities. o Assist teachers in conducting part of the program remotely and online, if necessary. o Assist teachers in maintaining a proper learning atmosphere. o Prepare necessary material for classes. o Supervise children during lunch time, recess, and nap time. o Help children with daily tasks and activities. o Help tidy up the classroom. o Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process. o Replace the group teacher when necessary. o Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of dangers, observation of children at play or at rest, and by appropriately responding to injuries.

o Be eligible to work in the U.S. o Be fluent in French. o Have 1 year of comparable experience as a Teacher Assistant in a program for children under six years of age. o Have a love for teaching children and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers, and parents. o Be familiar with preschool administrative tasks and learning methods. o Have great communication and organizational skills. o Be Cool-tempered and have positive attitude. o Be firm but have a kind personality. o College or associate’s degree is preferred with some college credits in early childhood education or child development.
