  • Exhibition "'Till the last drop of gas'", Road trip pictures by David Folch

  • Location: 75 Varick street (Soho)
  • Description: "Till the last drop of gas" is a photo exhibition about a lonely motorcycle roadtrip, from the East coast (Daytona Beach) to the west coast, in San Francisco. After more than 5760 miles and 20 days riding and meeting people on the southern roads, David Folch, a french photojournalist, is offering his vision of the landscapes and the faces of the USA. It's also a tribute to an ending time, the fossil fuel that soon will be more difficult to find. Crossing 10 States (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California) and several national parks (Ocala Forest, Big Bend, White Sands, Grand Canyon and Death Valley), the trip ended at the Golden Gate bridge. The opening of this photo essay is July 8th from 6 to 9pm at Splashlight Studios, "One Hudson Square", 75 Varick, New York 10013.

  • Description: For more than ten years, Bastille Day on 60th Street has been the largest public celebration in New York of the friendship between France and the United States: nearly 25,000 visitors attended the fete in 2008. Originally commemorating France’s Independence Day, Bastille Day has grown to be a celebration of liberty, freedom, and cultural diversity, echoing on both sides of the Atlantic. Bastille Day on 60th Street is a unique gathering of French-speaking people and American Francophiles, all yearning for the tastes, sounds, and joie of France.Spanning three city blocks, between Fifth Avenue and Lexington Avenue on East 60th Street, Bastille Day offers a fun-filled street fête that abounds with food, music, games, and more. For six hours, the street is closed to traffic and dedicated to Franco-American celebrations. With this year’s theme, Art de Vivre à la Française, the celebration will feature the French way of life, offering the best of France in New York.

  • Description: Yann Kerbec’s traumatic birth took place on an airliner in the skies over the Pacific Ocean. His mother died during the birth and Yann (Vincent Elbaz) has not flown since. Not once, not even with the free fly-for-life offer from the airline. Now, he is the simulator trainer for the pilots of an large airline company but still refuses to fly. That is, until he meets Alice and learns that “Love Is In the Air.”This light, romantic comedy has the right stuff as 20-ish Yann falls for Charlotte (Elsa Kikoine). The romance is short-lived, though, when she tells him that she is leaving for Australia for a year. Though he is deathly afraid of flying, the aviophobe vows that he will fly halfway around the world to visit her. His heart may be in the right place, however, his head is not and he leaves the plane just before take off. He goes home where his best friend, Ludo (Gilles Lellouche), a true stoner, asks to stay for “just a couple of days.”

  • Description: Did you know that the location of the 4th of July fireworks has been changed this year. Instead of taking place on the East River as it usually does, this year the fireworks will be over the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan. The reason for this change is because it is the 400th Anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration of the Hudson River.The fireworks can be viewed anywhere on the Hudson river below 59th street. The New York Pops will be performing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and a great time will be had by all.
