The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, will welcome the holiday season this year with a very special CinemaTuesdays series titled, Lou Castel: Action!. The series will celebrate the five-decade long career of this world renowned actor and artist, featuring five of his cinematic classics, and including a rare chance to meet the artist himself at a special reading of his works.Remarkable for his daring performances and longevity in the industry, Lou Castel worked with some of the most recognized directors in Europe, collaborating with Chabrol, Garrel, Assayas, Ruiz, Wenders, and Fassbinder. Castel is known for his unswerving zeal and dedication to the cinematic form, with a bent for portraying the transgressive and stigmatized of society. His characters range from homicidal epileptic (I pugni in tasca/Fists in the Pocket, 1965) to sluggish patriarch (La naissance de l’amour/The Birth of Love, 1965), both to be shown as part of the FIAF series.
