  • Cinéma des femmes: Perspectives on Women Filmmakers - All Mountains Look Alike (Toutes les montagnes se ressemblent) and La dérive

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, is proud to present a new series celebrating the rich history of women’s filmmaking in France. This February and March, will explore a carefully curated selection of women filmmakers that represents a more eclectic list than the expected canon, and includes a U.S. premiere as well as an in-person appearance by one of France’s most acclaimed young directors, Mia Hansen-Løve, to present her debut feature .

All Mountains Look Alike - An unnamed couple walks through a wintry woodland, discussing the disappearance of a family member on a similar mountainside hike. Does the specter of the loss haunt them still—and can the ghosts of long-ago find them now? A gorgeously shot short, filmed with restraint and yearning.

Little-seen upon its release nearly forty years ago, is a powerful Nouvelle Vague pearl most worthy of reexamination. The titular “driftwood,” Jacquie, is a runaway recklessly in search of true love. Terrified of embracing a domesticated life more stifling than satisfying, she pursues any man who might save her.
