  • Our thoughts and love go to the people of Haiti on the island and abroad.

The city of Jacmel, in the south, was also very badly hit. Jacmel and Port-au-Prince are equidistant from the epicenter of the quake.

Our American friend, David Belle, founded the Jakmel Cine Institute and the international Festival Film Jakmel. He flew to Haiti 2 days ago to help in Jacmel, a city that is not receiving help at the moment but where equally urgent needs exist, David told us yesterday. Thousands lost their lives there, and many are waiting for care, water and food.

    Please donate HERE: http://www.cineinstitute.com/news
Let's not forget the people of Jacmel. David and Cine Institute staffers and doing all they can to get help to come their way, and to provide the population with the necessary supplies.
  • Bonjour a tous,

    Merci.

Due to extremely high call volume following the earthquake in Haiti, the Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) is requesting volunteers to conduct shifts at the call center as soon as tomorrow, through the weekend, and into the coming weeks. Shifts cover the time period of 6:00 a.m. to midnight. Spread t...he word! If you are interested, please contact Marci Depersig at mdepersig@macf.com.

Differences Between French And Creole

The following question came up earlier today for a group of American attorneys set up to volunteer legal assistance to Hatians in the United States eligible for the Temporary Protected Status program. Can the average Hatian understand French? There are many more lawyers like me who studied French than Creole.  I have often met Hatian people here and they spoke French.  Nevertheless, to cite just one example, I saw Wyclef Jean on the Grammy Awards last night and could not understand a word he said…
