Teachers needed in New York

3438644553?profile=originalFrench-English bilingual programs in New York City’s public schools are growing. The programs were developed not only to serve the French families who had initiated after-school programs, but also to meet the needs of a growing number of diverse Francophone immigrant children who are emergent bilinguals, better known as English Language Learners. Also, more and more non-French-speaking families are signing up for these high quality programs. A true bilingual revolution is taking place in New York's public schools. In order to succeed, French-English bilingual programs in New York require a solid tri-partite partnership –– strong commitment from the schools' leadership, very qualified and dedicated teachers, and ceaseless involvement from the parents at all levels. Schools hosting these programs also benefit from the diversity of the population they serve and the diversity of the teaching staff, able to incorporate linguistic and cultural differences into their pedagogy. This model is also rich in cognitive advancement and beneficial to the brain's executive control functions as neuroscienceresearchers have come to consensus about.

  • Since teachers truly fluent in French with a NYS certification and a full residency status are rather rare and precious animals, do you think that some of these job offers are compatible with teachers who are pursuing the Hunter College program in parallel? The real hurdle I see here is the permanent residency status. It can take up to 6 years for highy qualified immigrants on H1Bs' or O1s' visa, is there anyway our schools could obtain from the DOE some degree of flexibility on that particular matter? If not, I don't see how it would be possible to attract teachers from Francophone countries who, at the end of the day, are most of the time those who have the highest likelihood of truly mastering the French language. What do you think?
