PS 110 Launches French Dual Language Program

3438635513?profile=original

Starting in September, 2011 PS 110 will launch its first kindergarten class following a dual language model.
The majority of the day will be taught in French with an emphasis in building biliterate students in French and English.
Madame Laura Sutton, the new kindergarten teacher, is embarking on this exciting journey together with PS 110. She brings with her 9 years of teaching experience. She has traveled abroad to Canada and Europe with students and is a member of the American Association of Teachers of French. This dynamic teacher is a perfect fit for PS 110, a school dedicated to "Growing Hearts and Minds".
This past June the school was awarded the NYSASCD "Educating the Whole Child for the 21st Century Award".  PS 110 is located at 124 Monitor Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

  • Hi Dan,

If you're planning to move to Greenpoint before the start of the academic year and you're interested in our program, please call our principal Anna CanoAmato at 718 383-7600.

  • Hi Dan,

    If

  • Is the PS 1102011 K class fully booked on the native French speaker side?

(My daughter is enrolled in thedual-language program at PS 133 in Park Slope, but it looks like we may be moving to Greenpoint!) And we have a second child following next year.

  • @Laura. Hey Laura, we can always try and help them understand. Could you help me create a list of LI primary schools (address + contact person) so that I send them a printed version of the report on French Language Education Programs in NYC? Let me know who else I should send it to. FYI - New Haven, CT is opening a French immersion program in September (Grades K and 1). It's a first in Connecticut!

  • It's great to see these dual language programs thriving so close to Long Island!  I wish the several school districts on Long Island that have decided to drop their French programs would be more open minded to see what is going on around us and realize how important French is in the world.  Unfortunately, out here on Long Island, French does not have the strong support system that is evident in the 5 boroughs.

Good luck to this program and here's to many more in the future!

  • That is awesome!!!
  • mais, on n'a jamais besoin d'un prof?

  • I am so excited about this! My son is going to be 3 in the fall and I would love to have him do the French Dual Language Program at PS 110 when he's ready for kindergarten. Will the students continue the dual program in first grade?
  • Being one of the parents behind this endeavor it is so exciting to see it become official!
