School Visit & Free Screening Proposal for Area Schools

Dear Educator: 

As a gift to the city of New York and its neighbors, filmmaker/environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand would like to invite teachers, students and their families and extended community to attend FREE screenings of his new documentary, HOME, when the film has its theatrical release at the Village East Cinema (located at 189 Second Ave, at East 12th Street, NY, NY 10003) in New York.  The film runs 118 minutes and is not rated. 

HOME is a majestic aerial view of the Earth, photographed in 54 countries and 120 locations and is the first environmental film to use only aerial photography.  Mr. Arthus-Bertrand's goal in making HOME was to approach the current debate about climate change from a whole new angle, giving the viewer the opportunity to see for themselves how our earth is changing.  Going well beyond the scientific reports, charts and graphs, HOME is an emotional reminder of what is at stake:  the Earth, in all its beauty, and the people who live on it.  With HOME, Yann Arthus-Bertrand hopes to provide teachers and students a stepping-stone to further the call to action to take care of our Earth. 

SCHOOL VISIT:  During the week of Monday, January 31st-Thursday, February 3rd, Yann Arthus-Bertrand can visit your school to give a talk to students ages 15 and older about the film, the startling ways he made the film, the effects of climate change he's witnessed, and steps each person can take in their own lives to reverse the damage to the Earth.  He can show some scenes from HOME on dvd. 

TEACHING TOOL:  Yann Arthus-Bertrand offers the enclosed Teaching Tool Kit for educators to use in various class room settings to continue the lessons beyond his school visit.

SCHOOL TRIP TO FREE SCREENING:  In exchange for Yann Arthus-Bertrand's school visit, the schools would agree to arrange a field trip for students to attend a FREE screening of HOME at the Village East Cinema in Manhattan.  We can reserve group seats and provide free, advance tickets at any daytime screening of the film on Friday, February 4th.  The theater holds 436 seats.  Schools only need provide transportation and lunch for their students.  Yann Arthus-Bertrand can speak to audiences after the screening, as well. 

ABOUT YANN ARTHUS-BERTRAND:  

Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a world famous French photographer, filmmaker and environmentalist who has always had a passion for the animal and natural world. Some of his works include Lions, Six Billion Others -- Climate Voices, Earth from Above, 365 Days to Think About Our Planet and New York From the Air. He founded Altitude, the world's first aerial photography agency.   His foundation GoodPlanet works with individuals, companies and institutions to help improve their environmental awareness in a variety of ways, including campaigns to help groups reduce their carbon footprints by 10% in a year.  GoodPlanet Junior is a collaboration with the French League of Education to teach students how to be good eco-citizens.  He is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).  After the release of HOME, his next project is to launch the official UN declaration of 2011 as the "International Year of the Forest," by producing a short-film, a book, an educational poster campaign and an exhibition on the theme of FORESTS.  The short-film will be narrated by actor Ed Norton.
