Graffiti is any type of public marking from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, examples dating back to ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.

Spray painting, and marker pen are the most commonly used graffiti mediums. In most countries, marking or painting property without the property owner's consent is considered defacement and vandalism and is a punishable crime.

To some people, graffiti is an art form worthy of display in galleries and exhibitions ; to others it is vandalism.

Graffiti has evolved into a pop culture existence often related to underground Hip Hop music.

Pour illustrer ce propos, voici une photo prise d'un wagon de la ligne 7 (surnommée "l'Orient Express" bien justement puisque son terminus donne directement dans le quartier chinois du Queens) du site mondialement connu sous le nom de 5 poinz : un ensemble de manufactures et de bâtiments désaffectés dont les propriétaires ont semble t-il donné l'autorisation aux différents "artistes". Personnellement, j'adooooore, et oui, mais ça n'engage que moi, les Graffitis sont une forme d'art. En tout cas, vu du métro aérien, c'est super joli...
