Kindergarten and First Grade Spots for Francophone Children Available (Sept 2014)
PS20 The Clinton Hill School, located at 225 Adelphi Ave in Brooklyn, still has several Francophone spots available for children entering Kindergarten and the First Grade in September 2014. These spots are currently open to children located both IN and OUT of the PS20 and District 13 zones. PS20 is a PreK-5 school that serves over 325 students in a nurturing environment. It provides a high-quality education to a diverse community. Students learn to think critically and care for their community, each other, and the world. PS20’s French dual language program reinforces the school’s goal to prepare the children to thrive and lead in tomorrow’s world.
The school has developed several excellent cluster classes; French, Art, Music, Science, and Chorus, benefiting each and every grade. Other initiatives include PS20 Farms, an innovative urban farming program in which our kids plant, tend, and harvest vegetables and flowers; a seed-to-salad food, biology, and environmental program has blossomed. The PS20 Artist-In-Residence program provides studio space to artists for the school year who in turn share their work experience and teach art to the school’s students. We’re one of the very few elementary schools in the city to offer music education to all its students and we’re very proud of our school band. We also offer a weekly French after school program with Bonjour NY.

The Clinton Hill School - PS 20, located in the heart of Brooklyn, will be expanding our French Dual Language program to First Grade in September 2014. We are looking for an exceptional French Bilingual Teacher to fill this position.
The candidate must have New York State Certification, American citizenship and/or permanent residency, and be fluent in French and English.
In September 2014 - 2015, the French Dual Language Program will have two classes: one Kindergarten class and one First Grade Class. Twelve Francophone and twelve Anglophone or speakers of other languages will make up each class of 24 students.

Looking for a French Dual Language Kindergarten Program for your child next year? PS 20 The Clinton Hill School is pleased to announce the hiring of Sabrina Audrey Spencer, the school’s first French Dual Language Kindergarten teacher. She was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, where she was educated in French-English dual language programs from elementary school through high school.
Sabrina most recently taught at Ecole Internationale de New York, a French-English elementary school in Manhattan. Before that, she taught both ESL and English to international adult and teenage students at Kaplan International and M575, an alternative NYC DOE high school and has been a French tutor for many years.
Prior to her career in education, Sabrina worked as a freelance bilingual analyst and spent nearly twelve years with Air France-KLM in New York City working as a bilingual special services representative, senior sales analyst, bilingual analyst/technical writer and translator.
Sabrina’s many interests include a passion for languages; she speaks French Creole from Saint Lucia, where she lived from age four until eight, and she has also studied Latin, Italian, and Spanish. She enjoys cooking and baking, and the performing and visual arts, such as photography and classic black & white films.
PS 20 The Clinton Hill School is currently enrolling children for the 2013/2014 French English Dual Language Kindergarten class, and is currently accepting applications from Francophone children both IN and OUT of zone and district. Happy first day of summer, everyone! With the help of parents in our community and at PS 20, and the committed efforts of Mr. Fabrice Jaumont of the French Embassy and Ms. Lena Barbera, Principal of PS 20, the French Dual Language Program is a go and will open in September 2013! We've received DOE approval, as well as grants from the DOE to kickstart the program and the French Embassy in the form of books. Ms. Barbera is currently interviewing French dual language certified teachers, and we are considering a French language after school enrichment program. There are STILL spots available for Francophone children. Please read further for more information! My heartfelt thanks to all the parents who helped make this a reality and I'm looking forward to growing this program with you in the years to come!
