What makes your job so special to you ? My job is to be the fashion conscience for the Neiman Marcus Group. I cover all the ready-to-wear and I get to see the fashion industry with a global view, from the struggling young designer to the established ones. I work with an enormous pool of talented people in the greatest city in the world. What does NYC bring to you ? The streets in NYC are the best runways. I get a tremendous amount of inspiration from just walking around. There is a level of energy and constant newness that you can not find anywhere else. What does NYC take out from you ? I guess it takes the French out of me a little. Because of that constant energy, I am always on the go and forget "l'art de paresser". If anything, the city gives more than it takes. What are your projects ? I just got back from 2 weeks vacation in Porto-Vecchio, Corsica, so right now I have to get my head back into work. I am working on Spring 2010, always scouting for new talents and appropriate trends to keep the Neiman Marcus Group as the dominant fashion retailer.Kareen's favorite restaurants.
I like little inexpensive hidden places: Burger Joint, La Esquina, Freemans. Bagatelle is fun for dinner for a Euro ambiance. I like the restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman on the 7th floor for a nice quiet lunch where is, I think, the best NYC view on Central Park and the Plaza. Mariebelle in Soho has the best hot chocolate (served European style) in a whimsical environment.
I enjoy Le Pain Quotidien on 40th Street, right around my office it is my little retreat during the day for a cappucino and a brioche with the company of a designer or a friend.Kareen's secret place is a tiny little shop Macaroons on 36th street and 7th ave, where they served the best macaroons, crepes and delicious French sandwiches.

Joseph CilonaJoseph Cilona is the type of guy you want to know in NYC. The city is incredibly appealing for the crazy amount of stuff that goes on. It’s pure life. But NYC is also strenuous and grueling relationshipwise. Not to mention the complete absence of silence. Therefore, shrinks and offshoots are requested : having someone with who you can share your thoughts just for the sake of it, it’s priceless. And it’s exactly what Joseph does and loves doing. Can you introduce yourself? I’m a clinical psychologist and personal coach in private practice in Manhattan. I work primarily with high profile creative artists, entertainers, creative professionals and law professionals. I’m also an author, I do psychology-related consulting, and I provide expert advice and commentary for Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, NY Daily News, Boston Globe, MSNBC, Health Magazine, Therapy Times, Cosmopolitan, and others. What makes your job so special to you? People often ask me how I deal with “listening to people’s problems all day.” When you are well matched with a therapist or a coach, there are tremendous rewards on both sides of the relationship. There are so few relationships and situations in which we encounter raw honesty and authenticity. Much of what is beautiful and compelling in life is revealed through those things. I have the unique honor of encountering those things everyday in my work. What does NYC bring to you? NYC really surprised me. I wanted very much to live and work in Paris, but was ultimately unable to due to bureaucratic issues. I settled on moving to NYC begrudgingly. Within a year’s time of living here it went from one of my least favorite to most favorite cities in the world. NYC was definitely and “acquired taste” for me, but now one I could never live without. There is something new and interesting and adventures of all sorts to be found every day here. What does NYC take out from you? A lot of taxes! What are you working on? I’m currently researching my second book, a sequel to The Path: Life Explained in 100 Pages (a retelling of Kahlil Gibran’s 1923 classic The Prophet).RB

Joseph’s websiteHis favoritesCheap store: As a former Bostonian, I’m still partial to Filene’s basement for the occasional fantastic deal. I also like the Century 21 store out on Long Island. I think the good finds and sizes sometimes last longer out there.Expensive store: Mantiques Modern. You’ll find something new and amazing every time you visit.Restaurants: I LOVE the Octopus takoyaki at Otafuku in the East Village. It’s not even really a restaurant, just a tiny counter that sells authentic Japanese street food. I also love the curry chicken noodle soup at Nooch in Chelsea, the chocolate almond croissant at la Bergamote (you’ll feel like you’re in Paris), and the sushi at Kiku Sushi (it’s not for you if you’re looking for glam or hip, but the sushi is outstanding and very reasonably priced).Secret place: I don’t know how secret it is, but I love the Russian Turkish Baths in the East Village for an afternoon of sweating and a good cheap massage. Go from the hottest (Russian) sauna into the freezing cold dipping pool for an intense natural high.

Juliette Longuet habite à NYC depuis six ans.

Phoenix

check AnylifePhoenix played last night at Terminal 5 and the night before at Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Both venues were full packed. They gathered mostly Americans who showed to be already big fans of the fourth record as they already knew the lyrics of Wolgang, Amadeus. I couldn't believe all this people in their 30 having fun as if it was an American band ! Actually nationality is less and less a criteria to examine work. Phoenix writes his lyrics in english and the songs are truly pop as the band, for a matter of time, was raised with this music. The sound was a bite too synthetic, too 80's for me but the crow loved it and had a great time dancing on every new tracks. I loved the ones from United, the first record. They were less successful among the people. Phoenix held the after show at Darkroom, a tiny, dark, place in the Lower East side where people mainly hung out and schoomzed. Phoenix already planned to play the 25th and most propably the 26th in Central Park. It's not, as I thought, during Summerstage but still it's Rumsey Playfield.RB ©Adam Hirsch for the photo at Terminal 5 + ©RB

From Anewyorklifesara rosen.jpgStreet Art is the summer news. In NYC, Whole in the Wall presents Blade, Crash, Daze, Jonone, Quik, Lee Quinones, Rammellzee or Sharp, Kenneth Capello is at the Milk Gallery, la Fondation Cartier will hold a Graffti exhibition in July and auction company, Millon Cornette de St Cyr, opens a street art department. Interview with Sara Rosen. Can you introduce yourself ?I am the founder of Miss Rosen, a media company dedicated to art and culture that handles everything from publicity, promotions, and marketing to exhibitions, workshops, and video production. I recently resigned after nine years as Publicity & Marketing Director of PowerHouse Books, where I also published 15 books under my own imprint, Miss Rosen Editions, with titles by artists including Ricky Powell, Martha Cooper, Charlie Ahearn, Claw Money, Danielle Levitt, Boogie, and DJ Disco Wiz.What makes your job so special to you?I have long held that my personal and professional lives have been one and the same; starting my own company is the ultimate way for me to create the world in which I wish to live on my own terms. What does NYC bring to you?New York City has brought me just about everything I have in this world. What does NYC take out from you?I remember seeing a news story on the historic 1981 b-boy battle at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, which brought breakdancing into my life for the first time. Twenty-five years later I helped Martha Cooper and Nika Kramer produce a 25th anniversary battle—but this time, featuring only female dancers. I can’t say the City has taken anything from me. I’d rather say New York has allowed me the opportunity to give back to it!What are you working on?I am working on a thousand things, perhaps most importantly learning how to create workload that isn’t overwhelming! I am keeping a very exclusive client list. I am working closely with photo agency Redux Pictures, art book publisher Glitterati, photo historian Gail Buckland, and photographer Joe Conzo, as well as creating several new ventures from the ground up.RB©RBHer favoritesCheap store: Housing WorksExpensive store: BergdorfGoodmanRestaurant: Café AseanSecret place: not tellin ..sara rosen.jpg
