Be a teacher in the French Heritage Language Program
The French Heritage Language Program is designed to support and enrich the teaching and learning of French for recent immigrant students of French-speaking background enrolled in New York City public schools. Our primary objective is to help students build stronger literacy in the native language to support their acquisition of English, maintain a connection to their respective cultures and identity, and increase their opportunities for success in their new American environment. We are currently offering part-time positions and looking for new motivated teachers! Candidates must be allowed to work in the US and will be required to request fingerprinting at the NYC Department of Education.
We offer a competitive hourly rate based on degrees and experience.
When?
2 to 8 hours/week of French classes and AP French exam prep for groups of 15 native French-speaking High School students + occasional replacements, starting immediately
Teach a French Heritage project-based curriculum, organize your own teaching material, be part of a young motivated team!
Occasional field trips
Where?
We work with 10 high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. Current positions are available in the Bronx.
Requirements
Degree in international education, language teaching, or French studies.
Fluent in English with native or near-native fluency in French. Experience with school groups and cultural projects. Must be comfortable using multimedia and new technologies. Experience teaching SAT II and AP French exams a plus. Organized, energetic, and able to engage a group of high school students.
