LA FETE DE LA MUSIQUE / MAKE MUSIC NY: “The largest music event ever to grace Gotham”.

Make Music New York began as La Fête de la musique in Paris in the 80’s The free outdoor music fest has met with such success that it now takes place in countless cities worldwide during the summer solstice.  This year, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and Bureauexport the French Music Export Office have teamed up for a unique program of concerts, parties, and screenings.

On June 21st, a free concert by French-American electro pop trio LIPTEASE at the French Embassy (wine and cheese bien sûr!) will preceed a Tribute to Serge Gainsbourg in Central Park. The tribute will feature French musicians Ben L'Oncle Soul with his French-infused Motown sounds, including a few Gainsbourg covers followed by Catherine Ringer (of the group Les Rita Mitsouko), mythic French pop star and contemporary to Gainsbourg.  Finally, the documentary Gainsbourg and his Girls, (Pascal Forneri, 2010) an enlightening look at one of France's most provocative and cherished figures seen through the eyes of his many muses, will be projected in the park.
