LLS, a small, progressive French immersion preschool in Brooklyn, is looking for a lead teacher for a preschool classroom. We provide a rich, progressive early education program for children ages 2-5.

LLS fosters an environment of collaborative exploration, investigation, and discovery where children are encouraged to think critically and creatively, to respect and support their peers, and to empathize with and learn from each member of their community. To qualify for this position, you must be a native French speaker with a remarkable work ethic. Please note that we value progressive education, social equity, and diversity.

Candidates should be knowledgeable about early childhood development and passionate about building deep relationships with children and meaningful partnerships with their families. The ideal candidate will have experience designing emergent curriculum based around the interests of children.

Description of the role:

This is a full-time teacher position in one of our two classrooms. Each year, we spend the fall getting to know each child and the group as a whole. As their individual skills and collective interests develop, we design long-term emergent investigations with roots in their questions and passions. Investigations typically culminate in large-scale, collaborative projects that challenge children and teachers to join forces in extended problem solving. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a teacher to hone skills in curriculum development and classroom community building.

Responsibilities:
Establish a warm, nurturing classroom environment where children are known, respected and appropriately challenged by guiding children in their learning through developmentally appropriate, creative and thoughtful practices. Foster independence, a spirit of responsibility, caring and community.

Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, parent/teacher meetings, emails, and child portfolios.

Plan collaboratively with a staff of classroom teachers and the director to develop learning experiences and support children’s growth and development.

The ideal candidate possesses the following traits:
Insightful, empathetic and creative thinker
Collaborative and flexible
Enthusiasm and a sense of humor
Confidence to take risks and be flexible; growth mindset

Qualifications:
B.A. in education
New York State Teaching Certification preferred, but not required
