Fall 2020: Bilingual French Pod

La Petite Ecole Greenwich Village Kindergarten for children born in 2015:

As schools, parents, and teachers plan for the upcoming school year, we are all faced with the unprecedented challenge of balancing personal health with the welfare and education of our children. La Petite Ecole Kindergarten would like to offer families alternative and complementary solutions to the NYC DOE “Blended Learning” model by helping to keep students engaged with live instruction every day of the week instead of only 3, 2, and in some cases, 1 day.

**Research suggests that by September most students will have fallen behind in academic progress where they would have been if they had continued in person learning as last school year.  (New York Times June 10, 2020)

In line with our educational philosophy and using New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, we are designing a supplemental school curriculum that will enable families to send their child to a safe learning environment. At LPE Kindergarten, students will be able to continue academic progress, dhavesocial connections with peers, and be safeguarded with social distancing..

La Petite Ecole Kindergarten would like to invite your child to join us in our Kindergarten Learning Pod this 2020/2021 school year. Our mission is to deliver a safe, high quality, and in person education to students entering French dual language Kindergarten next year.
With small group instruction and hands-on learning, we nurture students' minds in a supportive and stimulating learning environment. We ensure that students  are cared for,  respected, and appropriately challenged in academics. Students will learn in a ‘Pod’ of no more than 7 students. Subjects learned each day will include Math, Literacy, and French, as well as  interdisciplinary studies in Social Studies and Science taught through the Arts and literacy instruction.
The class will be taught by Jennifer Miller, our English Education Director who is a former elementary school teacher from the NYC Department of Education, and Eliane Zerbo, our French Head Teacher and member of La Petite Ecole since 2012.

We are also pleased to offer after school options from 4:30- 5:30 each day, where teachers will facilitate student-driven long term explorations.
