Dear Friend,

How do you bring the world to your child and bring your child to the world?

For educators and parents alike, it is an exciting time in New York City with so many people recognizing the importance of raising globallycompetent children to be citizens of the world.

As a colleague or parent interested in global-minded education, we invite you to join us for an exciting event!

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, World Brooklyn, a consortium of Brooklyn-based educators – Hands on World, International School of Brooklyn, Lango, and Language and Laughter Studio, will host an event to celebrate and showcase the work of educators, community groups, and researchers in the area of global education.

Homa Sabet Tavangar, author of the widely-acclaimed, Random House release, Growing Up Global: Raising Children to Be At Home in the World, will begin the afternoon with a presentation about how every child can grow up global. Participants will then be invited to attend rotating workshops and panel sessions.

Our overall goal for this event is to recognize the practices and impact of work already underway, as well as to inspire parents, educators, and researchers to engage in these important efforts at all levels.

Topics that will be covered in the panel sessions and workshops include:

• Raising your child bilingually at home

• Raising your child in a language immersion school environment

• Approaching bilingualism for the middle and high school student

• Promoting cultural awareness and global-mindedness

• The role of technology in the world of the globally-competent child

• Addressing issues of bias in our diverse world

• Balancing local and global community needs

…and more!

As a member of our community, we hope you will attend! To pre-register for the event, please send your name, contact information and the number of attendees to: worldbrooklynmarch2012@gmail.com.

The registration price is $20.

We will contact all pre-registered attendees at the beginning of February with further registration details. Please note that this event is for adults only; childcare will not be provided.

Sincerely,

Felicity Miller
