Le Problème (co-produced by Sarah Krasnow, Sally Shen, and Hannah Spratt) by François Bégaudeau will make its US premiere at American Theatre of Actors October 7-11, 2015, translated and directed by Sarah Krasnow.

“I’m going where I’m still desired,” says Annie, explaining to her husband and children why she is leaving them for a man she met at work.  Capturing one hour in the life of a family in crisis, Le Problème examines mother, father, son, and daughter as they navigate the responsibilities they have to themselves and each other.  When a relationship changes, what is the solution? Or is there even a problem?

Singer, critic, novelist, screenwriter, and playwright François Bégaudeau is best known for his film Entre le murs, which received the Palme d’or at the 2008 Festival de Cannes.  Le Problème, which had its world premiere in Paris in 2011, was Bégaudeau’s first play.  Unfolding in real time and in a style Bégaudeau has dubbed “hyper-realistic,” Le Problème finds love, despair, and unlikely humor in the first moments of what is sure to be a long journey for a family facing unexpected changes. “You’d think it was Pinter, but it’s François Bégaudeau,”[1] says critic Solveig Deschamps from unfauteuilpourlorchestre.com.

Le Problème runs from Wednesday, October 7, 2015 until Sunday, October 11, 2015.  Evening performances are on October 7-10 at 8pm.  Matinees are Saturday October 10 and Sunday October 11 at 2pm.  There is one student matinee October 8 at 4pm.

American Theatre of Actors is located at 314 West 54th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues and accessible by subway lines A, C, E, B, D, N, Q, R 1, and 2.
