World Nomads Tunisia kicks off with an evening of mesmerizing music performed by Tunisian singer Sonia M’Barek, one of the Arab world’s leading singers.
Sonia M’Barek is renowned for her exquisite renderings of maluf (Tunisian court music traditionally performed by men), music from Egypt and Lebanon, and innovative contemporary music rooted in the centuries-old traditions of Al-Andalus. Her soul-piercing voice resonates with the euphoric, transcendental quality singers strive to attain and listeners esteem–musical ecstasy known as tarab. In this program inspired by the Arab-Andalusian repertoire and Mediterranean music, she is joined by the superb Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture ensemble.
