    Strand Releasing is pleased to announce the US release of BEING 17, acclaimed French director André Téchiné (Wild Reeds, Thieves)’s moving exploration of adolescent sexual awakening, with a script co-written by director Céline Sciamma (Girlhood), starring the great Sandrine Kiberlain (Mademoiselle Chambon,) Kacey Mottet Klein (Sister, Gainsbourg), Corentin Fila, and Alexis Loret. BEING 17 is scheduled to open on Friday, October 7 in New York at Lincoln Plaza Cinema and IFC Center followed by a national release.

    Unfolding over four seasons in the arresting, mountainous setting of the French Pyrénées, BEING 17 is the story of Damien (Mr. Mottet Klein) and Thomas (Mr. Fila,) two French teenagers from very different upbringings who go to the same high school but are constantly fighting. When family circumstances bring Damien’s mother, Marianne (Ms. Kiberlain) to invite Thomas to live with them, the young men are forced to coexist and work through their emerging and complicated desires.

    Genre: Documentary. French production. Filmed in Paris, France. Languages: French, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, Chinese and more, with English subtitles. They are Irish, Senegalese, Brazilian, Moroccan, Chinese... They are between 11 and 15 years old and have just arrived in France. For a year they will be all together in the same adaptation class in a Parisian secondary school. 24 students, 24 nationalities... In this multicultural arena, we see the enthusiasm and inner turmoil of these teenagers who, caught in the midst of starting out on a new life, question our preconceived ideas and give us hope for a better future.     Conceived and directed by the Nice-based theatrical maverickGil Marsalla and starring Anne Carrere, a young French performer hailed as “Edith Piaf’s legitimate musical heiress,”PIAF!, THE SHOW premiered in 2015 as a tribute to “The Sparrow of Montmartre” on the centennial on her birthday and was inspired by the award-winning movie La Vie En Rose.  In two 45-minute acts, the show narrates the rags-to-riches story of the Parisian singer’s career through her unforgettable songs, complemented by a visual tapestry of previously unreleased photographs and images of famous Parisian locations of the Edith Piaf era.
