  • Night by Charles L Mee

  • Apr 26, 2015 at 4:00pm to May 10, 2015 at 1:00pm
  • Location: Theater for the New City
  • Description:

The New Stage Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of "Night (Thyestes 2.0)", a movement theatre piece written by Charles L. Mee and directed by Ildiko Nemeth, with projection design and Visuals by Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger. Inspired by Seneca's Thyestes, the piece combines sections of the classic tale with an equally dark modern vision. A whirlwind of vivid scenes bridges the torture, murder and cannibalism dogging ill-fated Tantalus to modern plagues both frightening and banal, from war crimes to YouTube vapidity. This world premiere performance brings a bold mix of standout projection design and visuals, choreography, costuming, lighting and sound to Mee’s rhapsodic vision, resulting in a night of wonderfully disorienting theatre.

    Directed by Ildiko Nemeth

    In collaboration with:
Laia Cabrera & Isabelle Duverger - Visuals and Projection Design
    Federico Restrepo - Lighting
    Egle Paulauskaite - Costume
    Galway McCullough - Fight Choreography

  • Valère Novarina’s The Animal of Time at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center

  • May 4, 2015 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm
  • Location: The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, NY
  • Description:

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center presents World Voices: International Play Festival, as part of the 2015 PEN World Voices Festival, which will showcase play readings by nine of the world’s most respected dramatists from Afghanistan, Argentina, Cuba, France, Germany, Indonesia, Kenya, and Uganda.

The festival will present The Animal of Time, a performance of the English translation by Amin Erfani of Valère Novarina’s L’Animal du temps, a theatrical adaptation of Le Discours aux animaux. In this musical performance, the protagonist speaks to animals—that is to say the audience—while taking them on a journey into the depth of language, one that reinvents itself every time the actor opens his mouth. This theatrical performance features actor Chris Kayser, director Valéry Warnotte, musicians Frédéric Lamarre and Adrien Tronquart, and technician Rafaël Georges. The performance will be followed by a conversation with Valère Novarina.
