Night by Charles L Mee
- Apr 26, 2015 at 4:00pm to May 10, 2015 at 1:00pm EDT
- Location: Theater for the New City
- Description:
The New Stage Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of "Night (Thyestes 2.0)", a movement theatre piece written by Charles L. Mee and directed by Ildiko Nemeth, with projection design and Visuals by Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger. Inspired by Seneca's Thyestes, the piece combines sections of the classic tale with an equally dark modern vision. A whirlwind of vivid scenes bridges the torture, murder and cannibalism dogging ill-fated Tantalus to modern plagues both frightening and banal, from war crimes to YouTube vapidity. This world premiere performance brings a bold mix of standout projection design and visuals, choreography, costuming, lighting and sound to Mee’s rhapsodic vision, resulting in a night of wonderfully disorienting theatre.
Directed by Ildiko Nemeth

Lyon Opera Ballet
Apr 29-May 3
Lyon Opera Ballet, heralded for its commitment to showcasing the work of significant contemporary choreographers, performs a spectacular program featuring some of the best choreography created over the last thirty years. On tap is William Forsythe’s Steptext, a 1985 quartet for three male and one female dancer in which the choreographer plays with theatrical conventions and constantly shifts weight and balance between dancers. The program also includes Benjamin Millepied’s Sarabande, a “rollicking work” for four male dancers that includes “good-natured jostling” Dance Magazine and the New York premiere of the Israeli-born, French-based choreographer Emanuel Gat’s Sunshine.More info.
