Le 7 septembre prochain l’institution new yorkaise ABC Home, ouvrira ses portes pour la première fois aux Etats Unis aux oeuvres calligraphiques de Thich Nhat Hanh, à travers l’exposition Calligraphic Meditation: The Mindful Art of Thich Nhat Hanh

Tich Nhat Hanh, maître du Bouddhisme Zen, fervent défenseur de la non violence lors de la guerre du Vietnam fut soutenu par Martin Luther King lors de sa nomination pour le prix Nobel de la Paix en 1967. Il est considéré par le New York Times comme le deuxième personnage le plus important du Bouddhisme après le Dalai Lama.

Son histoire est intimement liée à celle de la France, où il trouva refuge en 1972 après avoir été expulsé des Etats Unis. Son opposition à la guerre du Vietnam le contraint à l’exile alors qu’il enseignait à Princeton et Columbia. The original work of two gifted French artists Henri Gueguen and Joëlle Kem Lika will be on display at Agora Gallery, NYC. The exhibition is scheduled to run from October 29, 2013 through November 19, 2013.  The opening reception will be held on Thursday night, November 7, 2013 from 6-8 pm.Entrance is free and all art lovers are encouraged to attend, enjoy and meet some of the artists whose works make up this delightful show. 

About Henri Gueguen

In his art, French artist Henri Gueguen seeks to forge new ground in terms of visual structure, textural consistency, and diversity of materials. Working in a variety of media (from lacquer paint to ballpoint pens), Gueguen captures his subjects both in two dimensional and three dimensional contexts, masterfully combining rich colors, bold lines, a strong sense of light, and rhythmic compositions to create a distinct and original art form.

For over three decades, French photographer Dominique Nabokov has turned her camera lens on friends and colleagues at The New York Review, producing an incisive and intimate portrait of many of its key players. The approximately 50 black and white photographs in the exhibition capture both the spirit of the magazine and offer informal portraits of its editors, contributors, and supporters. Nabokov has subtly documented many convivial moments and the occasional intellectual jostling between the Review’s varied personalities. The exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of The New York Review, which famously coalesced during the New York printers’ strike of 1963.

The exhibition is made possible by The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation.

The Brooklyn –Queens Bilingual Group is comprised of individuals who are eager to promote and incorporate the French language in New York City public schools. They strongly believe that a bilingual education offers children countless opportunities.

BIOGRAPHIE

Compositeur/interprète originaire des caraïbes françaises plus spécialement de la Guadeloupe où il surprend son public avec des arrangements, des mélodies singulières et un franc parler certain. Ses influences prennent racine dans le Gwo ka, le blues, la soul et le jazz. Ses paroles explorent des sujets peu souvent abordés en dehors des frontières françaises: Un monde créole, une identité française, une vie dans la capitale Parisienne. Chantant en français créole et anglais, Érik est un guitariste autodidacte et prolifique.
