In Moussa Touré’s powerful epic fiction film, a group of 30 men and a woman sail to Europe in a pirogue, facing the sea -- and the possibility of never reaching their destination -- in exchange for the myth of a better life in Europe.

Synopsis:
In the lush Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Elza desperately searches for a distant childhood memory of a father she barely remembers.  Elza embarks on a journey to find herself but uncovers some stark realities along the way that brings her to terms with her own identity. Based on the director's true story of searching for her biological father, the film captures the passion and contradictions of a family in transition.
 

The Gala Opening of the 32 Fine Arts French Gallery featuring Antonio Nunziante will be wednesday night November 28th (from 6 to 9pm) at 480 Broome Street.

Cinema Thursday: Movies are generally screened Thursdays at 7:30 pm in the East Gallery in Buell Hall, followed by a moderated discussion in French. Attendance is free for members of the Société des Amis de la Maison Française and for students and faculty from Columbia or one of its affiliates, $7 for non-members. Unless indicated otherwise, films are in French with English subtitles.

A watchmaker finds out one day that his son has become a murderer. He tries to understand for whom and why.

Ce disque réunis quatre musiciens emblématiques du jazz d'aujourd'hui et aligne une instrumentation totalement inédite : le sax alto de Miguel Zenón, le piano de Laurent Coq, mais aussi le trombone ou le violoncelle de Dana Leong, et la batterie ou les tablas de Dan Weiss.

Le groupe présente un répertoire composé à part égale par chacun des deux leaders, et inspiré de « Rayuela », l'un des plus fameux livres de Julio Cortazar (« Marelle » en français).

C'est une rencontre importante qui nous offre une musique audacieuse d'une grande fraîcheur et qui nous emmène en voyage, d'un continent à l'autre. C'est aussi un hommage magnifique à l'un des grands écrivains du XXème siècle et à son livre le plus ambitieux.
