    Isaach De Bankolé, An Unexpected Gentleman

    Frequent star of films by Claire Denis, Jim Jarmusch, and Lars Von Trier, the French actor Isaach De Bankolé has become the preeminent leading man in a contemporary wave of cinema tackling the effects of Western colonialism on Africa.

    Originally born on the Ivory Coast before moving to Paris, where he was discovered on the street., Isaach De Bankolé has changed the face of French cinema as a pioneering leading man of color in French Cinema.

    A César award winner, De Bankolé is well know to European audiences for his powerful, subtly intense, and compelling performances. Whether an assassin, Cameroonian houseboy to French colonialists, or asylum seeker, De Bankolé’s presents his characters will dignity, power, and refinement. No matter how complicated the moral code or choices a role tackles, De Bankolé’s imbues each performance with the grace and strength of a gentleman.

  • L'atelier Francophone: Cours de théâtre en français

    L'atelier Francophone est un cours de théâtre basé sur des  exercices sur l'imagination, le corps et la voix pour arriver à un jeu créatif et "réel". Pour nourrir ce jeu, la vie intérieure de l'acteur est mise à contribution, ce qui amène de la richesse de part l'individualité de chaque personne.  

     

    Nous travaillons aussi sur des scènes écrites par des auteurs contemporains francophones.  Le cours intègre des méthodes diverses d'apprentissage du jeu (Meisner, Stanislavski, Chekhov, etc) pour que l'acteur puisse découvrir les outils qui marchent le mieux pour lui.

     

    L’accent est mis sur le travail en groupe. L’intérêt est de créer une troupe d'acteurs construite sur cet art qu’est le travail en commun, composée d’individus  qui apprécient et essaient de nourrir autant le travail de la compagnie entière que de leur propres personnes.

    Sprout invites you to experience film and video related to the field of developmental disabilities. People with developmental disabilities as subjects and performers remain marginalized in the media. The Sprout Film Festival aims to raise their profile by showcasing works of all genres featuring this population.

    By presenting films of artistry and intellect, the festival hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of people with developmental disabilities and expose the general public to important issues facing this population. The goal is an enjoyable and enlightening experience that will help breakdown stereotypes, promoting a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities.

     

    One of the movies showcased is "Mon Petit Frere de la Lune" a french short about autism.

    Depuis sa parution en 2001, l’échelle de niveaux de compétences en langues étrangères proposée par le Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues s’est peu à peu imposée dans le monde entier. Le monde de l’édition scolaire, la plupart des Alliances Françaises du monde, les centres de langues des universités, etc. s’y conforment et, même aux États-Unis, de plus en plus d’institutions l’adoptent. Mais à quoi correspondent les 6 niveaux de langues proposés par le CECRL ? Que doit-on attendre d’une personne qui possède le niveau élémentaire A1 par exemple ? A travers une relecture explicative des descripteurs du cadre, d’exemples concrets de productions orales et écrites, l’objectif de cet atelier est de permettre une identification aussi exacte possible du niveau de langue d’une personne. La détermination du niveau est cruciale pour cerner au mieux les besoins et motiver l’apprentissage.

    Paul LeClerc, a scholar of the French Enlightenment, will be retiring in June 2011 from his position as president of the New York Public Library, where he has served admirably since 1993. To mark this occasion, Paul LeClerc is joined by Bruno Racine, president of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, for a wide-ranging conversation about the future of libraries in the digital age.
