Compagnie Nacera BelazaLe CriU.S. PremiereSeptember 17*-19, 2009 • [Thu-Sat] • 8:00pmAdmission: $18.00 ($12.00 for Danspace and FIAF members)"Choreographic revelation of the year" 2008- Awarded by the French professional critique's union for theater, music and danceFrench-based Algerian choreographer Nacera Belaza makes her U.S. debut at Danspace Project, in association with the French Institute Alliance Française's Crossing the Line 2009 festival. Belaza came to performance after studying literature and film, both of which inform her work. Performed with her sister Dalila Belaza, Le Cri explores spirituality through minimal movement juxtaposed against a range of music including Maria Callas, Amy Winehouse and traditional instrumental music.Le Cri includes lighting design by Éric Soyer, and sound design by Nicolas Perrin.*Please join us for a Post-Performance Discussion moderated by Lili Chopra, Artistic Director of The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) and co-curator of Crossing the Line festival 2009 and Simon Dove co-curator of Crossing the Line and Director of the School of Dance, Arizona State University.
