Lehman College Art Gallery, Wednesday, October 28, 2:00 p.m.free and open to the publicIn "Poetry in Haitian Vodou Music," the poet Fred Edson Lafortune will introduce contemporary music in the context of vodou tradition, with a focus on lyrics. This lecture presentation will be accompanied by audio and video samples of works by musicians such as Azor, Boukman Eksperyans, Fabienne Denis and Ram.He will speak primarily in French, and Creole, with an English translation by Professor Thomas Spear.Author of the collection, En nulle autre, published this year (2009) by Le Chasseur abstrait in France, Fred Edson Lafortune is co-editor of Cahier Haïti, the 600-page anthology of contemporary Haitian poetry.
