This monkey encouraged them to create a rock band. Founded between Paris and Berlin in the early 2000s, Shaka Ponk is a five-member band who does not only mix languages such as English, French and Spanish but they also combine different styles such as rock, funk and hip-hop in their music. Signed since 2005 to the German label Edel AG, the band is a fully fledged group following the tradition of pugnacious noise music as begun by Rage against the Machine. Their first album called Loco con da Frenchy Talkin has cemented the band on the alternative scene thanks to the song HELL’O which has been featured in Fanta’s European campaign. This year, Shaka Ponk is coming back with a 14 song-album called Bad Porn Movie Trax mixing hardcore and with a distinctive French touch. The album will be released in the US early 2010 through Guess What! / ADA. The band will be in NYC from October 18th to October 26th but above all during CMJ for their showcase on the 22nd. They will also participate in a taping for the Fearless Music show on Fox TV.www.myspace.com/shakaponk / www.shakaponk.com
