Cohen Media Group is proud to announce the upcoming release of COME WHAT MAY, the new film by Christian Carion, (Joyeux Noel, Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award nominee,) an epic yet intimate drama set in northern France during the “exodus” of millions of citizens who had to abandon their homes during WW2 to escape the imminent German invasion. With a top European cast including August Diehl, Olivier Gourmet, Mathilde Seigner and Matthew Rhys, COME WHAT MAY is scheduled to open in New York on Friday, September 9 at the Paris Theater and the Angelika Film Center followed by a national roll out.

May 1940: German forces roll into France. Led by their reluctant mayor (Olivier Gourmet), the inhabitants of a small Northern French village are forced to flee along with millions of others throughout the country. The villagers take with them a German child whose father (August Diehl) opposed the Nazi regime and has been jailed for lying about his nationality. The father escapes into the fog of war in search of his son, accompanied by a Scottish soldier (Matthew Rhys,) who is trying to get back to England. With an original score by Oscar-winning composer Ennio Morricone and lush cinematography by Pierre Cottereau, COME WHAT MAY is based on many testimonies as well as director Carion’s own mother’s story, and celebrates everyday acts of resilience and heroism ordinary people carry out in the face of life-altering historical events.

Writer-director Christian Carion grew up in the north of France in a family of farmers. He studied science and engineering before turning to filmmaking, his childhood passion. His first feature, an homage to his upbringing, was the sleeper hit The Girl from Paris starring his COME WHAT MAY leading actress Mathilde Seigner as a young Parisian turned goat farmer. He followed with the WW1-set Joyeux Noel, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, and went on to make the Cold War Russia-set espionnage thriller Farewell starring Guillaume Canet and Emir Kusturica. COME WHAT MAY is his fourth feature film.
