After her aristocratic lover confesses he no longer loves her, a society lady (Maria Casares) driven by revenge tricks him into marrying a cabaret dancer who is a former prostitute. Jean Cocteau wrote the dialogue of this movie adapted from an interpolated anecdote in Diderot's Jacques Le Fatalist.
